In a perfect world, we could enjoy the glory of gaffes that the NFL brings week after week without any injuries. Unfortunately, an inherently physical game makes them inevitable, and this season once again has its fair share of star names banged up.



Hopefully, we see them get 100% healthy in due time while their backups play the part with beautiful blunders!


If it felt like Week 1 featured too many household names, this past weekend of hard-nosed action regrettably reared its ugly head:




Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III - Hamstring


Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown - Chest/Shoulder


Rams WR Puka Nacua - Knee (placed on IR)


Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco - Fibula (placed on IR)


49ers RB Christian McCaffrey - Calf/Achilles (placed on IR)


Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa - Concussion



Keep in mind that with it now being midseason, we won’t know game designations until later in the week. Similarly, wanting to get the injury news to you as early as possible means that we also don’t have practice availability just yet!


Of course, at Loserball we’re all here for the fun and fabulous flaws that the NFL brings, which means we’re also the type to find the silver lining in the above. With even more stars possibly riding the pine in Week 3, we want to see where we can reap the rewards.



In fact, arguably the biggest piece of news we’ll end up getting all week isn’t even technically an injury! The Carolina Panthers made the extremely early decision to bench second-year QB Bryce Young in lieu of seasoned veteran Andy Dalton.



The longtime Cincinnati Bengal is still clawing at the tail end of his career with all his might, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The Panthers already look primed for another #1 overall pick, and speaking of picks, that is where the Red Rifle thrives. Dalton dishes out pick sixes like it’s a Thanksgiving Day game every week, as he has the second-most of any active QB in the NFL with 18!



As for a lower-profile injury note that we’d be remiss not to mention - New York Giants kicker Graham Gano. The G-Men have already been superheroes for Loserball fans this season, and with Gano unavailable, New York went for two twice against the division-rival Washington Commanders on Sunday and fantastically failed twice!



With a missed PAT to boot, that earned Giant pickers -360 points en route to a -457 total score, which was one of the best of all of Week 2! NOTE: The missed PAT has yet to be updated in the scoring.

Loserball decisions can be affected in many ways, one of which is injuries, and we’ve shared the latest NFL injury report with Week 2 in the books.

NFL Injury Report - Week 3

Week 2 of the NFL season featured the New York Giants unveiling a fabulous failure that has only been seen once in the league’s history as the G-Men lost while scoring 3 touchdowns and allowing none. We also saw Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis make his best effort to help the team with some crazy plays and so much more.



It was a week full of sensational suck, which came to the benefit of Loserball fans. The delightful disappointments got started nice and early back on Thursday Night Football, and we’ve got the full best of the worst below! 


#1: Bengals Nearly Blunder Their Way to a Win


The scores weren’t quite as glorious as Week 1, but the Bengals were able to babble their way to the top of the list with a very respectable -461 score. It came against the back-to-back defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs, and they nearly won the game on the field!



It took a last-second field goal to raise them to 0-2, but thanks to plenty of lucrative lapses, they likely led to plenty of Loserball success. Young kicker Evan McPherson has generally been unreliable for Cincy, but instead, his missed extra point was of benefit to us to the tune of -180 points. Along with KC returning a fumble for a touchdown, the Bengals were as terrific as Tony the Tiger on Sunday.


For the second straight week, the San Francisco 49ers had the lowest handicap of any team - just 0! It certainly makes sense for a squad that is one of the favorites to make it to the Super Bowl like they did last year, but their time in the City of Lakes was not what most fans expected.



Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Darnold was dishing out dimes against the 49ers D, but that isn't where they truly struck gold. That was with a blocked punt for a massive -225 points, and that also buried Brock Purdy six times! The Vikes may not have Jarrett Allen anymore, but they made the 49ers’ offensive line look pedestrian.


#3: Jaguars Get Pounced on by the Dawg Pound

Jaguars may be native to South America, but Jacksonville has not been enjoying their time down south so far this season. Each of their first two games have been in Florida, and they’ve gotten chomped in both.



This time, it came by the hands of the Dawg Pound, who boosted the Jags' score to the third-best of the week off the back of a safety. They even nearly had two throughout the game, but we weren’t quite able to cash in on another Dan Orlovsky special. 



Either way, the Jags having the discipline of house cats with six penalties made it a great Sunday!


Another otherwise intimidating animal that rose to 0-2 this week was the Rams, who were seemingly ramming their heads against a wall in stubbornness. They refused to cover rookie WR Marvin Harrison Jr., who helped lead the Arizona Cardinals to a whopping 41 points!



It broke a nine-game home losing streak for the Cards when facing the Rams, and QB Kyler Murray was every part the jitterbug in Week 2. Arizona RB James Conner also carved some ram horns, as LA racked up -90 points for allowing 150+ rushing yards. 


We mentioned that the best of the worst kicked off back on TNF, and that was with the superb suck in South Beach. The injury concern with Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is certainly super serious, so putting that aside and hoping for the best, the Buffalo Bills were still able to bully their division rival.



Terrific turnovers were the name of the game, as Miami muffed their way to four of them, one of them being a pick six! A -200 point play is always a beautiful thing, and Miami was clearly looking out for Loserballers that took the risk on a team before the main slate.

Best of the Worst - Week 2

After playing in prime time in Week 1, the Philadelphia Eagles are once again featured with tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup. However, rather than providing us with beautiful blunders in Brazil, they’ll be back in the City of Brotherly Love hosting the Atlanta Falcons. 



Week 2 Loserball picks may be locked in, but our Monday Night Football previews are always here to help with what to look out for in preparation for the following week of marvelous mistakes.


The Falcons and Eagles may not have posted the best Loserball scores in Week 1, but there is still plenty to look forward to. Atlanta looked like the dirty birds in the greatest way possible, scoring just 10 points against the other Pennsylvania team - the Pittsburgh Steelers.



They truly left nothing on the field, as they were beaten by the Steelers kicker alone. That’s right, Pittsburgh kicker Chris Bowell single-handedly booted the Falcons with six field goals (18-10). 



Atlanta brought in QB Kirk Cousins to provide a lack of spark to their offense and he complied, providing a statue in the pocket. With the Eagles’ secondary allowing the opposition to fly high at will, something has to give, whether its plentiful pick sixes for the Falcons or allowing Atlanta WR Drake London to carve them up like birds.



Speaking of which, keep an eye out for Atlanta’s second-year RB Bijan Robinson running roughshod in Philly - the Eagles looked like a sharp Chedda’ on the ground against the Cheeseheads in Week 1, allowing over 150 rushing yards.



It’s also important to note that Eagles flameout WR A.J. Brown has been ruled out for the game, which means we may see some Johnny Wilson, who is a rookie WR out of the sixth round. The lack of experience could be exactly what we need to see Philly flounder under the bright lights of Monday Night Football.


Perhaps it will be the Falcons left fabulously flailing instead, but no matter which team provides us with more lovable losing plays, make sure that you stay familiar with the Loserball scoring system, which you can see here.

With a Week 1 full of wonderful woes in the books, along with the first kickoff of Week 2, it’s the perfect time to take a look at the latest Loserball and NFL team standings. Loserball Standings Report

NFL Week 2 may have kicked off down in South Beach on Thursday night, but Sundays are the true holy grail for football fans. Of course, rather than teams of destiny, we’re looking for teams with the free will of beautiful chaos.



Week 1 certainly didn’t disappoint with two teams terrifically exceeding -550 points, and we’d love to make our three picks on such teams this week! So, our NFL Week 2 preview highlights some matchups we may consider.


NFL Week 2: Making Your Loserball Picks


First and foremost, let’s remember that we have three teams to pick each week, and each one has a set handicap. The Loserball experts have an algorithm to generate these, with the teams expected to provide positively pitiful performances with the highest handicaps.



The first matchup we can’t wait to see is the coast-to-coast clash between the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Chargers. The Panthers were smashed by the Saints in the opening weekend, and after their world-class 2-15 record last season, looked like more of the same. LA was able to limp their way to avoiding a loss on the field, but they showed plenty of promise for beautiful blunders thanks to an offense with a lack of weapons.


Also in the early afternoon, we’re intrigued by the Detroit Lions hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Lions secondary can be excellently exposed, but Bucs QB Baker Mayfield also has a tendency to toss superb pick sixes. We’ll be rooting for him to force some throws downfield to WR Mike Evans, as well as Lions head coach Dan Campbell to take as many unlikely risks as humanly possible.


The Sunday Night Football game features two young QBs in Caleb Williams and CJ Stroud, and with Williams looking the part of a rookie in Week 1, more glorious growing pains could be in the cards. After all, the Chicago Bears’ defense also helped the Tennessee Titans earn a whopping -551 points last weekend! Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud may already be great, but we’re still anticipating plenty of sloppy silliness in prime time!

Loserball Week 2 Preview

The Legends of Loserball are making their picks for the worst NFL teams in Week  2 and they’re looking to rebound from a rough opening week of projecting putrid performance.  Sure, many of them had the Giants, Titans and Panthers in their lineups, but they completely whiffed on the Seattle “Safety Dance” Seahawks and overlooked the longstanding tradition of trash served up by the Cleveland Browns.

As they retool their algorithms and hit up their team and league sources for intel, let’s have a look at some of the more stinky selections across the NFL schedule as well as the LOL Standings.

Giants (107 handicap) at Commanders (160 handicap): Giants fans travel well, which of these teams will get booed the loudest?

Chargers (46 handicap) at Panthers (64 handicap): Carolina is a doormat and a lock to hit the -90 point bonus for rushing yards allowed.  

Browns (102 handicap) at Jaguars (99 handicap): The Jags must suck if their handicap is this close to the Dawgs.  Will Browns faithful Jonathan Gruber & Bob Lung put their team back in the lineup?

Bucs (55 handicap) at Lions (113 handicap): Tampa Bay is a strong pick with their MASH unit of a defensive backfield playing right into Detroit’s hands.  "Bucs Boy" Joey Wright might be called in to play safety.

Jets (86 handicap) at Titans (67 handicap): Our secret sauce algorithm is favoring the Jets on the road, Gang Green Guys Howard Bender & Mike Babchik has seen this movie before…

Raiders (37 handicap) at Ravens (18 handicap): Lamar Jackson can do no wrong in Lawrence Jackson’s eyes, but Raiders madman Maxx Crosby could make the reigning MVP wet the bed.

Vikings (167 handicap) at 49ers (0 handicap): The biggest mismatch on the Loserboard!  How will Vikings fan Scott Fish play this one?

Legends of Loserball Week 2 Preview


Week 2 kicked off down in South Beach last night for Thursday Night Football with the Miami Dolphins hosting the division-rival Buffalo Bills. Before we get into all things TNF, the elephant in the room: Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa and yet another head injury. It’s certainly nothing to make light of, so our fun Loserball Thursday Night Football recap in no way tries to do so!



Of course, we still want to go through the game so that it can be a much more carefree weekend of football action for you ahead!  


Buffalo vs. Miami: Josh Allen & The Bills Get Decimated By The Dolphins


Far before the unfortunate concussion, Tua was terrifically terrible right from the start of the game. It was the first time in his entire career throwing multiple picks in the first quarter, and things only went uphill from there, with a Pick Six that went for a Bills touchdown, earning Miami pickers a whopping -200 points! It’s what we absolutely love to see, and James Cook also diced up the Dolphins for us. He carved them up like this was a Thanksgiving Day game, going for three touchdowns.



Getting torched so easily led the Bills to get bullied by their AFC rival with a 10-31 victory. Cook was also the first to score three touchdowns with a rushing and receiving variety in the same game since Thurman Thomas in 1992. That was in the midst of the glory days where the Bills lost four straight Super Bowls!



We may not be on the trajectory for that type of excellence, but Miami was at least excellent for us last night. Between the pick six, penalties, points allowed and more, the Dolphins racked up -266 (actually -284 as two sacks allowed have not been recorded yet) points after their 85 handicap.



However, it’s worth referencing back to Week 1, where that score would have been around the middle of the pack. Of course, it’s still far preferable to Buffalo’s atrociously mediocre -94 score from last night. That would have been the eighth-worst score last night, so we need to see far more mid-90’s Bills show up before we start wanting to target them.


Looking Ahead For These Teams & The Rest of Week 2


Obviously, the Bills and Dolphins will have some extended rest before their Week 3 matchups, which will be a different Florida foe for Buffalo - the Jacksonville Jaguars. As for Miami, all eyes will be on the health of Tua, and they have the longest road trip possible - up to Seattle to take on the Seahawks and the 12th man.



We couldn’t be happier that Seattle didn’t have a 12th man last Sunday against the Denver Broncos, as they locked in the best score of the week with a whopping -670 points! That has earned them one of the highest handicaps for Week 2 (105), as they’re the ones taking the cross-country road trip to New England to take on the Patriots.



Whether that has you wanting to roll with their wonderful woes or focus on another team’s fabulous flaws,

Thursday Night Football Recap

The NFL has a rich tradition over 100 years and Loserball is brand new, so we thought it would be fun to look back over the years to find the most exciting Loserball moments in NFL History.

Everyone remembers “The Drive” by John Elway against the Browns in the 1986 AFC Championship Game played on January 11th, 1987.  It’s perhaps the most memorable example of a team snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  But 1987 was also the year Cleveland did something perhaps even more impressive.

Coach Marty Schottemheimer’s Browns hosted Jim Mora’s Saints to open the season and in the 4th quarter of a 21-21 tied game, Cleveland doubled down on defeat by allowing 2 safeties on back-to-back possessions to lose the game but further endear the Dawgs to Loserballers’ hearts!

In what may prove to be the best defensive performance in Head Coach Lovie Smith’s career, his Buccaneers allowed 42 points to QB Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans in a home game in Tampa Bay.  The Bucs showed they would be Loserball favorites in the first week of the 2015 season, by not only allowing 4 different receivers to score, they put the icing on the cake when Loserball Hall of Fame Quarterback Jameis Winston threw a pick six.

And no historical retrospective of Loserball would be complete without an entry from the Vikings, who on this date in 2020 generously opened up their home endzone and welcomed Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers to score 5 touchdowns.  The Vikes were so hospitable, they even invited the Packers defense to their endoze for a safety dance in front of their horned-hat wearing fans!  To top it all off, Minnesota didn’t even want the football, the Packers had possession for over 41 minutes in that game, ensuring a dominant effort on the Loserboard.

Now you can laugh out loud when remembering some of the NFL's best moments!

This Date in Loserball History: September 13th

NFL Week 2 is here and we’re previewing all the action for Loserball, our hilarious, reverse-fantasy football game where we pick the worst teams and score points for bad plays on the field.

The first thing you need to know to pick losers is how the scoring works.  We use 16 categories of stinkiness 

Next is the team handicap, which levels the playing field by assigning each team a positive number to be added to their negative score.  Handicaps can be found below with the best teams assigned low numbers and the worst teams assigned high numbers.

Let’s dive into Week 2 to help you find the truly terrible teams and the best values:

We’re not going to say picking losers is easy, but the biggest underdog on the board also has a low Loserball handicap, so the chalk pick for pitiful performance this week is the Las Vegas Raiders (37 handicap), playing on the road in Baltimore against the Ravens with 10 days rest.  After facing a Hall of Fame Coach in Andy Reid and a Hall of Fame QB in Patrick Mahomes, the Ravens now get to game plan against Antonio Pierce and QB Gardner Minshew – Balty won’t have a bigger drop-off all season and we’re expecting domination in all facets of the game.  

The Atlanta Falcons (26 handicap) take on the Eagles in Philly and will have their hands full trying to limit Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown after they burned the Packers in Brazil for 4 touchdowns and 34 points.  The game won’t be played on the slippery South American turf and the Falcons have a lot to prove on defense, so we expect plenty of scoring from the Cheesesteaks.  On the other side of the ball, Falcons QB Kirk Cousins looked like a statue recovering from his ankle injury last week and we’re projected the Eagles pass rush to mess up Atlanta’s passing game and sack him more than a few times.  The Falcons' low handicap in a tough spot on the road make them an ideal pick to light up the Loserboard.

If you’re looking for a sneaky selection for silliness, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (55 handicap) play at Detroit after an impressive home win against the Commanders.  The Bucs limp into Motown with massive injuries across their defensive secondary and have a near-impossible task slowing down the Lions aerial attack featuring Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta & Jameson Williams, plus two talented pass-catching running backs.  On the other side of the ball is Tampa’s QB Baker “Pick Six” Mayfield, who threw 5 interceptions for scores last season and was sacked 4 times by Detroit in their playoff matchup last January.

Finally, we can never overlook the Carolina Panthers (64 handicap), who were the best Loserball team a season ago and were absolutely shredded in Week 1 against the Saints.  This week the Chargers get the reward of playing the putrid Panthers, who couldn’t stop the run in New Orleans and now face a team led by Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman, who came out of the womb designing rushing plays.  The Panthers are a near-lock to reach their -90 point bonus for rushing yards against and should have no problems serving up sacks and turnovers on offense, despite the home-field disadvantage.

NFL Week 2 Preview, Loserball Style

Don’t look now, but we’re just hours away from kickoff of Week 2, where we at Loserball get to root for wonderful woes and all the possibilities of putrid play while reaping the rewards in the process!



Loserball is reverse-fantasy football, making the most of mistakes on the field to earn us heaps of negative points as we try to climb the Loserboard. To help to determine if tonight’s Bills vs. Dolphins features teams that should be a part of your weekly Loserball picks, we’ve shared our Thursday Night Football preview. 


Bills vs. Dolphins: An AFC East Rivalry


The first Thursday Night Football game of the new NFL season featured a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship Game, and for Week 2, we get to enjoy an AFC East rivalry between the two teams that battled it out for the division crown last year.



Of course, we’ll be rooting for that crown to slip, fall and fumble its way down the field tonight. If you thought Ravens vs. Chiefs on TNF Week 1 provided great Loserball picks, we were in for a real treat for this past Sunday’s slate.



Baltimore bamboozled their way to a score of -204 thanks to plenty of penalties and the rare Justin Tucker doink. As for Kansas City, they coughed the ball up with a Patrick Mahomes pick en route to a -158 score after a 53 handicap. Well, for perspective, the two best teams of the week tallied terrific scores of -670 (Seahawks) and -551 (Titans)!



So, what about the Bills and Dolphins? Well, Buffalo blasted their way to the seventh-best score of the week (-337) off the back of a kickoff return touchdown allowed - the first and only of the season thus far! We all know that the ‘Phins have some freakishly fast speedsters, so that may be in the cards once again.



Miami certainly didn’t manhandle the Jaguars, but they only posted a pitiful score of -140. It’s safe to say that we’ll be looking for more lackluster laziness down in South Beach!

As for handicapping, those are values set for each team corresponding to how well or poorly they’ll perform on the field. The worse (or better, for us!) they are expected to be, the higher the handicap! That value is then subtracted from the raw score to provide the actual score, and you can see the Week 2 handicap values here.
